When it comes to nutrition, I always advise against certain things like crash diets, being fixated on calorie counting, cutting off certain foods or food groups. That's because back in the day I have made all these mistakes and paid for them.
Here are some common nutrition mistakes to avoid:
▪️ Looking for quick fixes. Crash diets are bound to fail and will inevitably result in weight gain in the long run.
▪️Following meal plans prepared by personal trainers with no nutrition background and certifications.
▪️ Being obsessed with the scale. I used to weigh myself every day. Now I go by my body composition measurements which I don't do more than monthly and more importantly how I look and feel.
▪️ The “all or nothing” mentality. A “bad” meal doesn’t have to turn into a whole day of unhealthy eating.
▪️ Trying to out-train a bad diet. If you are not eating right, no amount of exercise will make you lose weight.
▪️ Not tracking your food. Tracking shows you how much you’re really eating and provides accountability.
▪️ Not eating enough protein. Protein keeps you more satiated and helps build/maintain muscle.
▪️ Undereating during the week which leads to feelings of deprivation and binge eating on the weekends. It’s a vicious cycle.
▪️ Demonizing food. There are no bad foods. It only becomes “bad” when you have too much of it. Everything in moderation.
▪️ Obsessively counting calories. It’s all about macros. Yes you do need to be in a caloric deficit to lose weight, but if your macros are not right, you will end up messing up your body composition.
▪️ Not being patient. It doesn’t happen overnight. The more patient you are, the more sustainable your results will be.
